How is Restorative Practices Working in Schools? Highlights from a Research Study

This sessions will highlight findings from an ongoing rigorous study of the Restorative Practices Interventions (RPI) in fourteen schools in Maine. Presenters will describe how RPI is being implemented in participating schools, including the development of a new observation tool to assess whether restorative practices are being used during routine school instruction. Presenters will also share the methods being used to study whether RPI is improving school environment and student outcomes (including school connectedness, peer relationships, academic achievement, social competency, bullying and disciplinary referrals). Presenters will also share plans to assess whether the positive effects of RPI on students persist over time during the transition between middle and high school — a high-risk period for students.
